Greetings and welcome to American Legion Post 754’s new website. I hope that you will have a look around to learn more about the American Legion and the activities of Post 754 that promote the Legion’s four pillars:
1. Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation
2. National Security
3. Americanism
4. Children & Youth
To begin, I want to thank the members of the room committee and Past Commander Cory Sullivan for all their work to continue improving our post. When you next visit, you will notice new carpet, a renovated restroom, fresh paint on the walls, and an expanded display of artifacts that more thoroughly reflects the service of each generation of veterans since our inception in November of 1919.
I would also like to highlight the work of our Treasurer, Paul Russell, who was instrumental in moving data from the old domain registry to the new one as well as designing the new website.
Second, while it feels as though the new “year” at Post 754 has just begun, we have already covered a lot of ground over the past month and a half. At the beginning of September, members of the post had the privilege of attending the 65th Annual Buffalo Soldiers Wreath Laying Ceremony at the United States Military Academy, paying tribute to the soldiers who taught some of the Army’s most distinguished leaders the finer points of mounted cavalry operations and horsemanship for over four decades.
Prior to that, the post supported the opening of the LT Harriet I. Pickens Division of the US Naval Sea Cadets in Harlem and played host to attendees of the Defense Security Studies Conference at Columbia University, an annual event that brings together students and academics from 16 colleges and universities in an interdisciplinary discussion of national security at the intersections of development, diplomacy, economics, history, law, management, and technology.
Most recently, the post partnered with the Special Operators Transition Foundation to host a dinner in support of their mission: guiding elite service members into successful civilian careers. In a related effort, the post sponsored the Stop Soldier Suicide 'Wall Street Warriors' event, successfully driving awareness and raising vital support for veteran mental health and wellness.
To wrap up this first Commander’s Corner dispatch on our new website, let me thank all of our members for making our post such a vibrant and healthy organization. I welcome your input on how we can improve not just our website, but also our programming so that we offer events that are meaningful and important to all of you in the weeks and months ahead.
Sincerely,
Jack Morrow
63rd Commander
